Richard Blanco is not only the youngest-ever poet to be asked to recite his work at President Obama’s Inauguration on January 21 (11:30 a.m.), but he’s the first openly gay Latino writer to be featured at the history-making event.

Blanco’s won many awards over the years, including the PEN American Center Beyond Margins Award for the Beach of the Dead. His most recent collection – Looking for the Gulf Motel – was published last year.

Also appearing at the Inauguration will be the Philadelphia Freedom Band, which was invited by the official Presidential Inaugural Committee to march in the parade. The band was selected from more than 2,800 organizations that applied.
